Most holiday lighting is priced per linear foot of roofline. It is a sensible unit, and it is also the easiest place for two quotes to look comparable when they are not.
What a linear foot means here
It is the run of roof edge that gets lit, measured along the eaves, gables, peaks and any porch or dormer included in the design. It is not your square footage and it is not the perimeter of your lot. A single-story rambler front might be 60 to 90 feet; a full two-story wrap can pass 300.
What should be inside a per-foot price

- Clips rated for your roof and gutter type
- Installation labor and equipment
- In-season service when something fails
- Takedown after the season
- Off-season storage
A quote that only covers hanging is a smaller number for a smaller product. Ask which of those six a per-foot price includes before you compare it to anything.

Two houses with identical footage are not identical jobs. Second-story peaks, steep pitch, restricted ladder access and detail work all change the labor without changing the footage.
