Two quotes, hundreds of dollars apart, often describe two different products. Here is the checklist that makes them comparable.
The six line items
- 1Measured scope. Which rooflines, in feet. Not "the front of the house."
- 2Materials. Bulb type, color temperature, spacing, and who owns them at the end of the season.
- 3Install window. A date range, agreed before you sign.
- 4In-season service. What happens when a bulb or a section fails, and how fast someone is back.
- 5Takedown. Included, with a window, at no extra charge.
- 6Storage. Whose garage the lights live in until next November.
What a missing line item means
If service is not in writing, assume a service call is billable. If takedown is not in writing, assume January is a separate invoice. If storage is not mentioned, the lights are yours to keep in a box.
Our quotes spell out all six, in writing.
